...Back to the Hospital

My little man has a good sized bump on his head....it came as a result of crowning just a little too long. He came really fast once I started pushing....so the nurse had me stop to wait for the Dr to get into the room. The part of his head that was crowning collected a lot of blood and formed what they call a hematoma. Take that bump...which his little body is now focusing on trying to break down and get rid of...with the fact that he was a little early....and you get a higher risk for jaundice. I didn't want my baby to get into the 'danger' zone with jaundice...so I tried to get him to eat as much as possible and I put him in the sun to sleep (and in case you were wondering...the Dr later told me this doesn't help anything.... Krew sure enjoyed the warmth tho!) Despite my best efforts, we got a call on my birthday...Saturday, after having his blood drawn saying we were getting readmitted into the hospital.
I cried as I loaded this cute little guy up to take back to the hospital.
Deja was cute saying goodbye to her little brother. At first she was sad when I told her I was going to be back at the hospital for another night. She told me she wanted to go to the Dr. too....but when she heard Gramma and her aunts and uncle were going to be at the house playing with her she was ok with mom leaving. (Lucky for us, my mom was already on her way to come up for my birthday....and, of course, to see Krew and Deja again....so it worked out good. They helped keep Dej happy and entertained and Chase was able to come to the hospital with me and Krew)
Krew's bili level was at a 20...we had to get him down under a 15 for them to let us go back home. They wanted to give him an IV to get more fluids in him because he could get dehydrated laying under the lights.....so, they tried his hands, his arms, his feet -and finally, after five unsuccessful pricks, they asked me if I would be ok with just doing it in his head. This is when I lost it...I tried so hard not to cry, that it just made me cry harder. By this point, I just wanted them to get the stupid IV in. So...they tried the head and it worked, it just looked awful.Krew HATED the eye protector. He would cry and twist and arch his back until he got it wiggled around enough that he could peek over the top of it. It was so sweet...as soon as his little peepers were showing, he'd settle down and be ok. BUT...I'd have to cover them right back up and we'd start the whole thing again. It broke my heart. So...after one very long night (I spent most of it letting him hold my finger and readjusting his eye protector.) We got the levels down and were able to go back home.
We were sent home with a bili blanket to use. The next day, Monday, we went to the Dr...and then the hospital for another prick. His levels weren't dropping, so we were given a little tanning bed for Krew to lay in.
He didn't seem to mind this one....or the eye protectors as much as he did in the hospital. We kept him under the bed for 24 hours, and then did a full weeks worth of daily hospital visits to get his blood drawn (his level went back up to a 16 and stayed there for a day) until -Finally- on Saturday, his levels plateaued and we were able to be done with it all! Through the whole process I knew he'd be ok and it all would eventually be over- but that didn't make it any easier to deal with at the present time! Since then, the doctors said it would take several months for his little bump to go down....but after three weeks it was gone. -Almost overnight, it shrunk down so fast it was insane!! I'm so glad our little guy is healthy and happy!!!

Bringing Home Baby Brother!

Deja was so cute when we brought home her baby brother! Gramma and Boo helped her make a sign and got some balloons. She was so excited to show us all of it...and to love on her baby Krew. She was a total cheeseball...when Chase was taking her picture, she would pose and crinkle up her face and say 'cheeese!' (she's never done that before...lately, she completely freaks when I try to take her picture) A few Deja 'cutes' with her new brother.... in the hospital, the nurse let her help push my wheelchair when they moved me into my room after delivery, she kept saying that she 'pushed mommy's stroller'. She also refers to Krew as 'mommy's baby brother' :) Dej, of course, loves to give Krew kisses. She tries hard to be soft ...but doesn't really get the whole soft thing...so I am a nervous wreck with her around him! Our attempts at a first family photo were pathetic...but it's all we got for now! I love these two babes of mine!!!

He's Here!!

Krew Jay Kidd....February 20, 2012...7:01 pm...6 lbs 14 oz...20.5 inches long
Krew's story is alot like his big sister's....except a key player was here for it!! ...His Dad! Chase has been sticking around close to home so that he wouldn't miss it and it's a good thing because, once again my water broke...this time I went almost a week longer...to 37 weeks and 5 days. It was Monday morning, around 9:00. I had a big day planned for Deja and myself. We were just starting some freezer meals for when baby brother would come...and we were going to do A LOT of picking up and cleaning and organizing the house. As we were making some meatloaf for the freezer, Chase ran downstairs to shower. I felt a little trickle and thought to myself how funny it'd be if that was my water breaking...but only silently acknowledged it because it was so small. Deja told me she wanted to 'Hi-low' Gramma....so I called my mom for her to talk to while I finished up...as the phone was ringing I had a continuous gushing down my leg. The purpose of the phone call then changed... instead of just saying hello, I was now calling to ask my mom to get in the car and come to Boise. Her response was funny... 'are you serious?!' She is awesome though and was able to quickly get on her way up here to help with Dej. I then hollered to Chase, when he got upstairs, I was trying to hurry and clean up my big mess in the kitchen. When I told him what was going on, he too was awesome and stepped right in to help. He bathed and got Deja ready...packing a bag and everything...while I hurried and showered and packed my hospital bag. We moved into another awesome ward and have already met some pretty neat people. I called one new friend, Tess, to see if Deja could go to her house until my mom got here. Tess has three cute girls and from the sounds of it, Deja was in heaven playing at their house.....it was so nice to know she was happy and safe while we headed off to the hospital! We got admitted into triage at 11:15. It was so crazy and nice to have Chase with me through everything. I was hungry so he helped me find the cafeteria and some food while we waited for the nurse to take us to the delivery room (super glad for this...if I would have been by myself I probably wouldn't have said anything and would have been dying because it was after 8 that night when I got to eat again). We got into the delivery room around 1:00...and just like last time, I still wasn't having any contractions or anything like that. We told the nurse to just get us going...so they got me all hooked up to the pitocin. It took a few hours before we got anything really going. I held off a while longer than I did with Dej, and by the time I threw in the towel I was hurting! (Already noted to self to not wait that long the next time!!) I got the epidural and from then on it was great. I got more or something this time because my lower half was a little useless...Chase had to help lift me up to get all into position...but I was still able to feel and know when to push, which I like. It was only a couple hours from when I got my epidural to when he got here. Once I started pushing it only took a few pushes and he was out. My Dr wasn't in that day, so I had the on call Dr and he was great...he let me reach down and pull Krew up onto me. He came out easy and without any damage...just like Deja, which I appreciated :)
Chase got to cut the umbilical cord and put on his first diaper.
Deja is an awesome big sister! She loves her baby brother and was so excited to see him for the first time. At first, Krew looked so much like Deja....but as we've had him around, he's taking on his own look and is so stinkin' cute.
We sure love him and already can't imagine our family without him!!

Ready to Pop!

As much as I don't really like taking prego pictures...I wanted one to show how freakin' big I got this time!! I never got a picture at the end with Dej, so I'm not sure how I compare exactly to her...but I know I'm quite a bit bigger this time around!! Dej wanted to be in the picture with me, but would then act shy and try to hide her face...so this is the best we got! :)
